Arts Auction Benefit Dedicated To Marjory A. Cady Marjory (Marge) A. Cady, was a Middlebury College alumna of 1938, and moved back to Vermont in the 90s, after spending many years in California and then in Darien , CT. Married in 1938, she and her husband Howard, Middlebury class of 38, raised a family of five children. True to her belief, her curiosity about life stayed sharp and fresh, as she said during a high school graduation speech, “We can be grown-up three year olds.” While pursuing a career as a teacher of writing at the LHT school in Darien, she became a charter member of the Connecticut Writing Project. “Life is a gift and an adventure,” she said,” a treasure - each day we add to that treasure, and what we put in adds up to what we'll have when we are twenty, thirty, or fifty years old. Our treasure will be made up out of the richness of our efforts.” [ more ] Addison County Service 20th Hospice Volunteer Annual Arts Auction May 12th A Vermont community event not to be missed is coming soon! It's the Addison County Hospice Volunteer Services 20th annual Arts Auction on Friday, May 12th, at the beautiful Basin Harbor Club on Lake Champlain in Vergennes, from 5:00 - 8:30. Both the silent and live auctions will include over 200 pieces of work generously donated by very talented Vermont artists and crafts persons, plus “special auction items” donated by area businesses and individuals. Items for auction range from greeting cards to fine paintings, from baskets to pottery, and from gift certificates for dinner at local inns to lift tickets at local ski resorts. There will be something for each and every one of you here at this very fun, relaxed, social event. Also included in your entrance ticket is food---a variety of hors d'oeuvres, a hot buffet, and scrumptious homemade desserts. A cash bar will be available. As you stroll through the event, enjoy the soothing sounds of the very talented Fred Barnes on piano. [ more ] New Lemon Fair Insect Control District Approved To Start Work By Ed Barna Bad news for the bugs: voters in Bridport and Cornwall overwhelmingly approved forming the state’s second insect control district in Australian ballot voting on Tuesday, April 25. Special town meetings in those communities--the only ones voting--immediately authorized the new district to go into action, according to Tom Vanacore of Bridport, chairman of the Joint Survey Committee that worked out the details. The agreement they had brought to the two Select Boards was reviewed by the Attorney General’s office and deemed acceptable as the foundation document, he said. [ more ] Remembering Their Courage Relay for Life Walk remembering those who have faced the challenge of Cancer was held at the Middlebury Collage Campus on the evening of Friday, April 28th and 29th. Pictured above is a special poster created by Cindy Kerr in honor of her son Ryan. Cindy has donated more than 3000 custom-designed pillowcases to children staying at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dozens of area Cancer survivors walked for the cure and raised money for The American Cancer Society. [ more ]
