When Calves Could Fly... By Mike Cameron Edgar S. Crosby Sr. impacted aviation, agriculture and international business like no other native Vermonter of his generation. Listening to his son “Bub” Crosby tell stories about his father’s respected business career gives anyone with a love of airplanes, farming and travel, reasons to pay close attention to the details. Let us begin with a memento of Mr. Crosby Sr’s love of flying. His soft helmet and flying goggles are prized family heirlooms. “The first time I ever flew, was on his lap. It was a Stearman biplane owned by Alphonse Quesnel, open cockpit and plenty of noise. I was 3-years old and have been hooked on flying ever since,” Crosby Jr. remembers. [ more ] Spring Has Sprung At Middlebury Agway By Dale Piper Middlebury's Agway is a source of farm needs, yard décor, clothing and pet food and supplies. Originally a farm supply chain, Agway evolved into a more diversified retail operation over a number of years, stocking pet goods and lawn and garden needs, culminating in a network of locally owned retail establishments that are free to respond to the needs of their own communities. The owner of the Middlebury Farm and Garden store, Scott Jacobs, purchased the store from Agway in 2000, after spending seven years with the company in their management training program and in management positions. Originally from southern Pennsylvania, Jacobs graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in business and agriculture. [ more ] A Bird In The Hand Tim Williams of Brandon didn’t let a steady drizzle stop him from harvesting this 20lb. 10oz. gobbler on Wednesday morning 5/3/06.
