Tigers and Rutland Always A Battle

   There were plenty of  unanswered questions  coming into this one played under the lights this past Friday night on Rutland High School's beautiful new artificial playing surface.
   The Raiders were riding high after a second week win against a strong Essex club at Essex.  It would be the second Division 1 notch in their win column two weeks running.  South. Burlington and Essex had both fallen to the Raiders via impressive performances.  [ more ]

Sharing Memories With Gisele Litch

    For many generations of Vergennes residents a trip to the local post office means going to see Gisele. Her smile, humor and incredible memory for facts about each of us make getting the mail an event that includes meeting an old friend. Gisele started at Vergennes Post Office on June 12, 1975, when Post Master David Aubin asked her to work in a position that was to last for a period of ninety days. Within two weeks, they were talking about extending the ninety days to ninety more and before we all noticed, thirty three years had passed and Gisele became a local institution. She has been a civil servant through at least six different postmasters and three decades of change in the Little City.

VUHS Recipe for Homecoming Fun

    Please don't try the following recipe, unless you have a lot of room, a lot of paint, quite a few soccer balls, and a fondness for loud noises. On September 13th, the chefs at Vergennes Union High School cooked up a recipe for Homecoming Fun that was well received by everyone. First you take close to 500 teenagers, add four hay wagons, a bunch of cardboard and paint, themes, rival soccer games, a dance and 38 visiting exchange students from Germany.  [ more ]

Around And About Addison County-Goshen

  Did you know that some of the town of Goshen was annexed from Philadelphia?  It sounds impossible but not if you know that there was a town by that name between Chittenden and Goshen.  It was so mountainous and it attracted so few settlers that about 1814 - 1816 the south half was annexed to Chittenden and the north half to Goshen.    [ more ]
