VUHS Cheerleaders Bring Home 4th State Championship By Cookie Steponaitis For those of you who would like “LOUD” and want an electric atmosphere, then the Essex Fair Grounds on Saturday, February 21st was just the place for you. Gathered together in one venue was over twenty-six cheerleading teams and over 3000 fans who were carrying signs, wearing school colors and there to support “ THEIR” team. Scheduled to appear in divisions based on the school size, Division 1, 2 & 3 cheerleading teams each presented a three minute routine blending dance, gymnastics, stunts, pyramids, cheers, and much more. [ more ] WomenSafe Recipient-Kimberly Krans WomenSafe announced Jean Shappee as the 2009 recipient of the Kimberly Krans Women Who Change the World Award. This award is presented annually to a woman in Addison County and Rochester whose outstanding work and achievements have furthered the safety of women and children in our community. It is named after Kimberly Krans, a longtime supporter and dear friend of the WomenSafe community.
[ more ] VUHS Students Excel In Speech Competitions By Cookie Steponaitis We all remember great speeches and can even recall phrases from them. But, let’s be honest, how many of us want to write them and give one ourselves? We often think that some people are born to be great orators and possess a gift or talent that mere mortals can not ascribe to. These assumptions are far from the truth and if you are not certain, just ask the fifty Vergennes Union High School (VUHS) students grades 9-12 who during the past three months have competed in one or more speech competitions sponsored by local civic organizations. The VUHS speech competition season begins in early September and continues through April. [ more ]
