With An Appreciation for the Past And Eye to the Future Celebrating 20 Years of Bub’s Barn

    When Bub Crosby first walked the floors of Bub’s Barn it had a very different look and function. Built in 1932, the barn was the center of Crosby Farms and Commission Sales and a cornerstone of the Vergennes Community. In 1986 the cows left, but Bub did not. In fact, he and his wife Meg set about reinventing the building, preserving the barn, but keeping the hallmarks of being in business in a small Vermont town: service, relationships, community and connections.

Sharing Memories of Vermont Woods & Roads With Frances Warner

At seventy –seven most people look outside at the weather and script their day’s activities inside, out of the elements. Not Frances Warner! Since his birth in New Haven, Vermont in 1931, he has been outdoors and working just about every day of his life. “I have always loved being outside,” Frances commented. “When I was little, I would walk to the Gage School, which was a one-room school house taught by Mrs. Russell. It was heated with a woodstove and later with coal. I always remember Mrs. Russell standing at the door. She was a small bit of a thing, but feisty. Everyone respected her and for good reason. If she needed, she could really make an impression with a ruler.”

History Is Calling And You Are All Invited

    Fifty-seven VUHS US History students are issuing an invitation and a challenge. On Wednesday, April 1st from 6:30-8:30 p.m. their History Day projects in the exhibit, performance, website, and documentary categories will be on display in the VUHS Library. Standing by them will be the students with research and insight to share into this three week project that culminates in competition at Vermont History Day on April 4th at Spaulding High School. Sponsored by the Vermont Historical Society and linked to the National History Day organization, this event has for over thirty years focused attention and effort on the research and presentation of history.  [ more ]
