Going Home For The Holidays : Linking Families And Traditions

   Susan Griffin is excited about going home for the holidays and when she disembarks the airplane in Denver in early December she will not be traveling alone. She will have in her bag the stories of her ancestors and their holiday traditions that will be coming home for the first time in over a century. Susan is captivated by the connections of New England to the history of the nation and began her own personal holiday journey by studying her own heritage. She found that her Denver roots traced back to Vermont, Massachusetts and finally across the ocean to England and France.

Porter Paddlers Complete Lake Champlain Journey

On Sunday November 22, 2009, Neil Gruber and Mike Cameron completed their lake long paddle of Lake Champlain to help raise money to fund this summer’s ferry boat excursion for the residents of Helen Porter Heath and Rehabilitation Center here in Middlebury.  It was the second end to end accomplishment for Gruber who paddled the lake alone several years ago.  This year he asked Cameron who is an avid sea kayaker to join him.  The pair began their journey at South Bay near Whitehall New York and ended their quest near the Canadian border in Missisquoi Bay.

From Fort Ticonderoga to Boston: The Wintry Trek of Henry Knox

    While exploring the stories of the American Revolution most have heard of George Washington and the exploits of Vermont’s Green Mountain Boys and Ethan Allen; but few have heard the tale of Henry Knox and a trip involving sixty tons of artillery transported from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in the winter of 1775, earning Henry Knox the well earned title of an unsung hero.
