Middlebury College Friends Of The Art Museum Honor Five For Excellence In The Visual Arts Each year the Friends of the Art Museum at Middlebury College recognize those who have made significant contributions to the community, either through their creative endeavors or through support for the visual arts in Addison County. At their Annual Meeting on Sun., May 2, the Friends honored five individuals in five categories. Student award winners were Middlebury College senior Jack Reed of Stowe, Mount Abraham Union High School senior Anna Pierattini of Monkton, North Branch School eighth-grader Luke Freidin of New Haven, and Weybridge Elementary School sixth-grader Nikhil Plouffe of Weybridge. Artist Kate Gridley of Middlebury was the award recipient in the category of Professional or Amateur Artist, Craftsperson, or Teacher. Even today we can remember details about who were there, what decorations were in place and the music and events of the evening. For many of us, we have photos to document the event and even have saved souvenirs of the evening such as ticket stubs or glassware. [ more ] Paramount Theatre Presents Legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra The Paramount Theatre announced today the appearance of the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra at its Historic Landmark Theatre, Friday, May 21 at 8:00PM. Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all the dance bandleaders in the Swing era of the 1930s and '40s. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts, and the drawing power at theatres, hotels, and dance pavilions built and sustained the momentum of his popularity. [ more ]
