Local Woodworkers Featured At Sheldon Museum By Phil Gridley & Mary Manly Vermont has had a long and storied history of artisans and craftsmen producing practical and decorative wood ware and fine furniture. This was especially true in the Champlain Valley and particularly so in Addison County. Products for making and shipping butter included churns, bowls and Scotch Hands for shaping and hardening, decorative stamps for visual appeal and tubs for shipping butter made in Lincoln with spruce staves in various sizes up to fifty pounds. [ more ] Local Cheerleaders Headed For Macy’s Day Parade As All-Americans By Cookie Steponaitis Every summer, as the halls of VUHS empty out, a new sound can be heard through the corridors. Gathering from around the state, cheerleaders from middle school, junior varsity and high school come annually to VUHS to participate in a cheerleading camp sponsored by National Cheerleaders Association. Working in pairs and as teams, the cheerleaders learn the latest in tumbling, dancing, cheers, partner stunting and crowd oriented cheers. Each cheerleading team comes to these camps to be taught by some of the top college cheerleaders in the nation, who serve as the instructors for the program. [ more ] Sun Tracker By Joe Schmidt Dean Oulettee with his automatic tracking solar collector. On many days the electric meter at the Oulettee home in Weybridge runs backward. Sun striking twelve solar panels generates adequate electric power to run their appliances.The array ends its day facing West. Early morning sun warms refrigerant in tubes of the carefully balanced frame and repositions the solar cells to start another day of power production.
