Diplomacy And Debate In History: Successes, Failures And 58 Teens Find Common Ground

   When the directors of the National History Day competition selected this year’s theme of Diplomacy and Debate in History, Successes, Failures and Compromises, it would appear at first glance that they were not thinking of having fifty-eight teenagers explore it with in-depth research, exhibits, skits, and documentaries. However, if you look again, there is proof that the match up is not only a success but the result of weeks of research, debate, reflection and work on the part of individuals and teams.

Hannaford Career Center Inducts Thirty-One Students Into Honor Society

   The Hannaford Career Center inducted thirty-one students into the National Technical Honor Society on Thursday, March 24, 2011. The ceremony was held in the Middlebury Union High School auditorium. NTHS Advisor, Marie Eddy, conducted the ceremony, aided by current NTHS members Nina Edson and Hannah Thorpe. Program instructors Woody Danforth, Cheryl Werner, Janice Bosworth, Lisa Rader, Priscilla Powers, Rita Wells, Phil Teer, Candace Burkle and Steve Small presented the students with their certificates.  Assistant Director, Loli Berard and NTHS Advisor Marie Eddy presented the students with their honor cords and pins. A dessert reception followed, enjoyed by newly inducted members and their families and friends.

A New Angle on the Game of Basketball: Another Kind of March Madness

   Like all professional athletes each member of the team begins the pre-game warm up with certain rituals. Now, not to say that basketball players are any more superstitious than baseball players; but this basketball team certainly has its established routine and can be found suiting up for the game in a manner to which they are very accustomed to. After a long and leisurely shower and rub down, it is time for Showsheen and baby powder.  [ more ]
