Delving Into History: Spending Time With Historian & Raconteur Dick Adams By Cookie Steponaitis To hear Dick Adams tell the story he was something of a hell raiser when he was a child and so he got sent to spend a lot of time with his grandparents and in particular his grandmother who was one-half Mohawk. John Quinn, Jim Rubright, Ed Sommers, and Dayton Wakefield played golf at the Stowe County Club in June. John, Ed and Dayton are presented the trophy by Heather Shouldice, past president of the Montpelier Club. [ more ] Almost Ready By Mike Cameron A steady stream of cement trucks have been transporting concrete to the Lake Champlain Bridge construction site. Deck work for the new bridge scheduled to open on October 9th, 2011 is progressing at a brisk pace. The contractor has a 65 day extension that was granted earlier this year allowing for unpredictable construction delays. After this time they would be charged a penalty per-day over the agreed upon time table. [ more ] Vermont Quarter Horse Association and Addison County Fair & Field Days Pair Up to Sponsor Gymkhana By Cookie Steponaitis On Tuesday, August 9th the Vermont Quarter Horse Association (VQHS) and Addison County Fair & Field Days (ACFFD) joined forces to hold the first Gymkhana at Addison County Field and Farm featuring events that included tunnel vision, pole bending, barrel, streaking flags and scramble. The goal for Lori Brown, Vice President of the VQHA and Kathy Nisun, Board of Directors of Horse Arena at ACFFD was to “…bring together people of all ages and riding levels to ride and have fun with their horses, family and friends.” Riders came from Milton, Westford, Townsend, Fairfax, Castleton, Rutland, Bristol, Brandon and even New York State to be a part of the new event.
