Land, Family, Community And Commitment: Sharing Memories With Reynald Godard

   When Reynald Godard had his first glimpse of the Champlain Valley the year was 1947 and he was twelve years old. What struck Rey immediately was that life was about to change and since he didn’t speak more than a few words of English he was going to be listening a lot. Rey and his family, which included in total seven boys and one girl came to America from Ottawa, Canada where his education had been mostly in French. “We went to a one room school,” shared Rey.

Middlebury Varsity Scrimmage

Middlebury Varsity Tigers had its first full scrimmage vs. Fair Haven this past Saturday.  The entire scrimmage lasted around 90 minutes.  There were 4 sets -each team with 2 sets and 12 plays a set. Middlebury, coming off a rough start to the scrimmage, really showed a strong running game.  The first game of the season is September 3rd vs. Mt. Mansfield, right after one last scrimmage on the 2nd of September.  Good Luck this Season!

The Five K’s Of Cross Country

  Emily Marquart is starting her second year as Head Coach of the Middlebury Union High School now.  She has strength in communicating with her runners, one that seemingly inspires them to run faster and with more volition.  As F.D. Roosevelt says, Physical strength can never permanently withstand the impact of spiritual force.  Emily leads the team with determination and a love for running.  Good luck this year team.

Bridge Construction Update

With the installation of the new Champlain Bridge center arch, the focus now is on when the entire structure will be ready for traffic. NYSDOT officials have finally made comments on the record that the bridge will not be completed and ready for vehicular traffic on the 9th of October.  As of this issue a new completion date has not been suggested.
