ACFA Firefighters 2012 Annual Meeting Held At Vergennes Eagles Club Addison County Firefighters filled the Vergennes Eagles main function room for their annual meeting and awards banquet on Wednesday evening, January 18, 2012. After a very satisfying buffet prepared and served by the host Eagles, ACFA President Bill Sinks began the process of announcing the year's awards for “service above self” among the counties 17-volunteer fire departments. Robert Thomas was one of those people. It was not a question if there were stories to tell but simply when to tell them. Bob was born in January, 1915 in the coal country and was a second generation American. Growing up in a rural town where the mine offered the only form of steady employment, Bob took an alternate path and first went into the seminary with plans of becoming a priest. [ more ] Health Teacher Liz Cronin And The Flour Baby Project By Marcie Bolton The flour baby project, run by health educator Liz Cronin of Middlebury Union Middle School, is a project designed to introduce eighth graders to the idea of what it would look like to be a teen parent. It includes the financial piece of being a teen parent, the time involved, and discussions on how being a teen parent would alter one’s reality as they know it. One of Ms. Cronin’s hopes is that this project starts a dialogue at home around sex and relationships and what values families have regarding the topics. [ more ]
