A Wee Bit of the Irish for Us All

Perhaps your name is O’Malley or are you from County Sligo? No, well now, are you a devoted Irish fan of Notre Dame or maybe even just a little jealous of the smooth slide of Irish whiskey? Still no-well begorin, if that don’t beat all. It must just be that you are an admirer of the little people and would search for the end of the rainbow! What ever the case, this is the month of St. Paddy’s Day and as me old father once told me, “Those are two kinds of people, those who are Irish and those who wish they were and on Saint Patrick’s Day everyone get’s their chance.” If you are still not convinced then perhaps you need to spend a little bit of time with the thought of parades or simply everything green. The truth is that the holiday has changed, evolving over the centuries and has some parts that are uniquely American that have very little to do with its Irish roots.  [ more ]

Mary Hogan School’s Pegasus Theater Is Putting on Once Upon a Leprechaun

For seventeen years Debbie Hadeka has been leading the Mary Hogan School’s Pegasus Theatre group putting on productions of all types and sorts.  This year Ms. Hadeka is working with 25 cast members from grades 5 and 6 on the production of Once Upon a Leprechaun.  Ms Hadeka describes the story; “It is a story about a young shepherd named Fin O'Grady who wants to marry his sweet Pegeen.  Three little leprechauns try to help the tongue-tied boy learn how to tell a story in order to win the hand of his true love.  Several stories are spun throughout the play and many delightful characters emerge as Fin learns to tell a story.  With uplifting Celtic melodies and slapstick humor, it is sure to inspire many a chuckle in the wee as well as the old.”

Addison County Transit Resources Is There In Times Of Need

Addison County Transit Resources is the public transportation option in Addison County and thousands of people use their services every year.  ACTR was established in 1992 to create a network of public transportation alternatives that connect the people and places in Addison County and beyond.  According to information provided by ACTR, the shuttle bus system is made up of six different bus routes including connections to Rutland and Burlington.  Their Dial-a-Ride (demand-response) System takes commuters, elders and persons with disabilities, Medicaid-eligible residents and many other vulnerable populations to work, doctors’ appointments, grocery stores and meal sites.   [ more ]
