Vergennes Rotary Celebrates A Successful Year Vergennes Rotary “ Mavericks” celebrated a successful year and the change over of leadership this week. Outgoing Rotarian President Sue Burdick awards Rotarian of the Year to Lynn Donnelly. Rotarian Scott Gaines presents the Paul Harris Award to Sue Burdick honoring her commitment, service and devotion to Rotiarian causes. The award is one of the most prestigious awarded from Rotary and was created to honor Rotary’s founder. [ more ] Retire? No, Keep On Cooking! Munson received her catering license without the intention of what her present, Janice’s Home Catering business has turned into twenty-three years later. “Cooking started off as a hobby… I applied most of my focus to the attention of former Middlebury College President’s Olin Robison and John McCardell as their personal managers.” [ more ] 35th Annual Middlebury Summer Festival on-the-Green The Village Green serves as the venue for the Middlebury Summer Festival on-the-Green celebrating its 35th Season from July 7-13, 2013. Our program opens on Sunday, July 7, at 7 p.m. with the quirky, pure pop music sounds of the Brooklyn-based band Lake Street Dive and includes Brooks Williams, Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo, Ellis, After the Rodeo, The Holmes Brothers, Bob Amos and Catamount Crossing, and The Clayfoot Strutters along with some sensational Canadian acts—Cassie and Maggie MacDonald, Raz-de-Marée (a.k.a. Tidal Wave) and Kobo Town, to give you a hint of what’s in store. The popular “Brown Bag” series returns during the noon hour Monday through Friday. The week concludes with the Vermont Jazz Ensemble Street Dance on Saturday night, complete with Jim Condon leading the swing dance instruction. Events are held rain or shine. [ more ] Getting To Know The New 2013 Miss Vermont And Miss Vermont’s Outstanding Teen By Cookie Steponaitis When the stage lights dimmed at South Burlington High School, the stage finally cleared and the excited parents, grandparents, contestants, family members and contestants moved outside, newly crowned Miss Vermont Jeanelle Achee and Miss Vermont’s Outstanding Teen Chloe Johnson looked at each other and grinned with relief. The stress was over and the whirlwind days leading up to the Miss Vermont Scholarship Competition was over. Little did both know the eye of the storm was waiting off stage to hit when they exited. Thrown in to a week that was included photo shoots, television interviews and meeting the many volunteers that will help guide their year, Janelle and Chloe walked off the stage and literally hit the ground running. Both girls discovered that being Miss Vermont and Miss Vermont’s Outstanding Teen is more than appearances. It is about being on the job and traveling in the state they both love. [ more ]
