When the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center (PHCC) held it’s Celebration of Success on June 2, 2015 and awarded fifty-eight students their program completion certificates, it was a celebration of work ethics, skills learned, perseverance and personality. The young people present were ready to graduate and begin travelling on their diversified career paths in Culinary Arts, Human Services, Automotive Technology, Industrial Design and Fabrication, Forestry/Natural Resources, Diesel Power Technology, Sustainable Agriculture, Addison Repertory Theater and Design & Illustration. The teachers shared stories of ingenuity and commitment and celebrated the success that spanned the entire career fields taught at PHCC.
    Keynote Speaker Mr. Peter Jensen involved the students in his address and counted down a top ten of skills and lessons learned in life and working with others. He stressed to the group to never lose their personal power and make choices that support them reaching for dreams. As each of the PHCC staff took the stage they shared moments and comments about the paths taken by their students and pride in their work. Competitions were listed, prizes were awarded and scholarships were handed out. The sense of completion and eager anticipation of new beginnings defined the event for all families and loved ones present.
    The programs at PHCC were well represented and introduced an amazing group of students into the work force, military, college and some taking gap years. Presenting the awards were PHCC staff Ms. Lisa Rader, Mr. Steve Small, Ms. Cheryl Warner, Ms. Janice Bosworth, Mr. Phillip Teer, Mr. Aaron Townshend, Mr. A Douglas Atwood, Mr. R. Hayden Thomsen, Ms. Ultima Danforth and Mr. William Danforth. Scholarships were awarded by Mr. Mark Thuma and Mr. D. Lynn Coale who recognized the seniors and faculty and staff who are leaving at the end of the year. Additionally impressive was the list of local businesses that have already hired many of the PHCC students and places that served as internship locations. It was apparent to all present that the future is indeed bright and Addison County young people will lead the way blending skill, innovation, work ethics and passion to make the Champlain Valley a special place where the words Made in Vermont and Made in America are a source of great pride and a future indication of prosperity.
