Friends And Neighbors Come Together To Celebrate Ferrisburgh Day By Cookie Steponaitis There were a lot of handshakes, back slaps, hugs and huddles of conversation present on Saturday, September 12th at Ferrisburgh Day. Life seemed to slow its hurried pace and one could almost see time turn back. Children played games on the lawn and had their faces painted. Adults paused to judge which pie was the best and talk about crops, the harvest, their families and issues pertinent to the town and daily life. [ more ] Neighbor Investing In Neighbor -Pure And Simple -The First National Bank of Orwell By Cookie Steponaitis The Farmers Bank of Orwell was founded in 1832 and parallels the history of the development of banks in America. The National Bank Act was created and signed in 1863 by 16th president Abraham Lincoln. Before that date there were no “national” banks, so between 1832 and 1863, the Farmers Bank of Orwell operated with the blessings of the Vermont State Legislature. When national banks became a reality, the Farmers Bank of Orwell applied for and once chartered became the First National Bank of Orwell. [ more ] Tigers Post Back To Back Wins Against BFA And Brattleboro By Mike Cameron Middlebury 20 BFA 7 Middlebury was able to stop the BFA ground game cold. Led by a Senior Front Four of Nick Beauchamp, Bruce Wright, Wyatt Laberge and Pat Messinger, Middlebury slammed the door on the Bob White running attack for most of the game. Chris Grier and Cort Fischer also had a solid game on defense. BFA was not allowed a touchdown except for a kick-off-return TD. [ more ]
