 A Glimpse Into America’s Coming Of Age Sharing Stories With Statesman George Jaeger

Sitting on the deck of George and Pat Jaeger’s New Haven home as a beautiful sunset bursts forth in hues of pink, aquamarine and gold and the rhythmic sound of hummingbirds at the feeders can be heard, the world of politics, distribution of power and the Foreign Service seems a world away. Even the warm and resonate tones of the host’s voice conjures images of idyllic summer nights and conversations with gatherings of friends. Yet with a very firm handshake and deep hazel eyes that shift hues as the conversation swings from small talk to talk of America’s past and present, it is clear that in the mind and heart of George Jaeger rests stories of a career spanning America’s coming of age and the importance of understanding the history and past as a lens through which to evaluate and plan the future.

Local Woman Honored For Her Work In STEM Careers

Born and raised in the Champlain Valley, Mary Daniels Harrison comes from a line of women who pushed the limits of what was possible in their time for women.  Her great-grandmother Philomena Daniels was the first licensed steamboat captain in America in the late 1800’s and opened pathways for other women including her daughter-in-law to follow. Raised to be involved in her community and to pursue her dreams, Mary chose a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) career and worked from 1963 to 1985 involved in NASA programs including the Space Shuttle.

Honoring And Remembering Takes Many Forms

Honoring and remembering our service men and women past and present took on different forms this past week for students in the ANWSU school district. Many students participated in a letter writing campaign sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution handwriting a letter to a person currently serving in the Armed Services with phrases like, ‘Thank you for your service’ and ‘my grandpa was a soldier,’ and even one four year old who drew a picture of their new kitten and promised, “to hug the kitten every night for all the nice service men and women.” The letters will be mailed and bring joy and a smile to those serving.
