Porter to Establish Nurse-Midwifery Practice in Vergennes

    Porter Hospital will soon add a new service and introduce a new provider of health care services for area women.  As of June 1, Certified Nurse-Midwife Martha Redpath will begin seeing patients in Vergennes at the former Vergennes Family Health office on Armory Lane, and she will have delivery privileges in the new Porter Hospital Birthing Center.  The name of the practice will be “Tapestry Midwifery”.
    According to the American College of Nurse-Midwifery, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM's) are “licensed registered nurses who have completed additional/specialized training in the management of pregnancy and delivery, as well as postpartum services.  [ more ]

Vergennes High School Students Excel at Vermont History Day Competition

    What do Alexander the Great, Nelly Bly, Mother Mary Jones, Ethan Allen, The Triangle Waist Fire, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Barbaro, Stephen Hawking, the Battle of Thermopylae, Mary Cassatt, Carleton's Raid, Vermont Veterans, Jesse Owens, Ray Charles, Rachel Carson, reenactments, and the personal story of one American immigrant have in common? They were all, in some form, on a bus Saturday, bound for the Vermont History Day competition. They were there as exhibit boards, documentaries, performances and historical papers. They each represented the conservatively 40 plus hours of research by a VUHS high school student or member of the Otter Creek History Club, and were all linked to this year's theme of Tragedy and Triumph in history. They all were stories from the past that needed to be told. They were the culmination of a month's worth of
work and countless revisions that taught the students involved research skills,
communication skills, interviewing skills and an appreciation for linking past and present.

Gold Medal Winner Heads To Nationals

   The Patricia Hannaford Career Center (North Campus) proudly announces that two of its students garnered the top two prizes in the Skills USA Diesel Competition held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at the VT Air National Guard base in South Burlington, VT.  Morgan Lilly of Bridport,  son of Craig and Alana Lilly, won the first place Gold Medal for the second year in a row.  Ethan Verberg of Vergennes, son of Bo and Joanne Verberg, earned the second place Silver Medal in the state competition.
