Honoring America’s Veterans And Their Service

In 1864 America was at war with itself. The death total on the fields was staggering and the country was ripped apart politically, socially and saw little chance of being a nation again. Standing before the US Congress, Abraham Lincoln spoke from his heart about honoring the soldiers of both sides and the families carrying on in their absence. He remarked, “Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.” For Lincoln, the Civil War was not only a test of whether the divided union could endure, but a horrific toll of loss on both sides of the lines. While Armistice Day was not created until 1919 and it was not officially changed to Veteran’s Day until 1968, Lincoln saw the need to understand the role of the soldier and the role of the families who serve and carry on in their absence.  [ more ]

Tiger Football Season Ends At BFA 34-20

The Tigers broke through early after stopping the Bob White running game on their first possession.  BFA junior quarterback Nate Loughlin decided to go air and the Tigers Cody Pomainville picked him off near mid-field.  Pomainville then engineered a Tiger drive to the red zone and threw a nice TD pass to junior Zack Dunn from 16-yards out.  The kick was hooked left but the Tigers were in front, 6-0.

Obstacle Course Racing World Championships Involves Local Athletes

High School junior athlete Nathan Bourgeois is no stranger to athletic competitions. He regularly participates in the Spartan Challenge Races with his family and loves to push himself to new levels and limits. Recently Bourgeois found his calling and joined several other local athletes at the World Championships of Obstacle Course Racing (OCR).  [ more ]

Woodsmen Collegiate Team Includes Local

A woodsmen team at a collegiate level is comprised of people who are skilled with saws, logs, and all phases of working in the woods. Members compete in single, double and team events using their physical strength. Addison County graduate Courtney Morin is a freshman at Paul Smith’s College and recently joined this competitive group.
