Sharing Stories Of Growing Up Champlain Valley Style With Brenda Tierney By Cookie Steponaitis Brenda Tierney was born and raised in East Monkton, Vermont but has Vermont in her veins and heart. While today Tierney hails from the Sunshine State, she has the gift of being a storyteller and a way of sharing with generations the unique aspects of growing up Champlain Valley style. When trying to explain the Champlain Valley to others, Tierney often uses stories from her past to help illustrate a lifestyle that is part love of the land, hard work, pure chance and steeped in traditions. Through her words which are often posted on the Facebook site Growing Up in Addison County, Tierney takes us into her life and at the same time celebrates experiences we can relate to, cherish and even chuckle with. [ more ] Local Leads Projects With Nourish International By Cookie Steponaitis Jared Birchmore grew up in Addison County, Vermont in a family and culture steeped in community service. Birchmore was active as a teen in his school and community and had his first encounter with Nourish International and their outreach work while attending Syracuse University. The encounter changed Birchmore’s life and began an annual program drive that continues to grow in size and scope. [ more ] Lions Club Donates Dictionaries To Schools On Thursday, February 1, members of the Vergennes Lions Club handed out dictionaries to the 30 third graders at Vergennes Union Elementary School and to the 17 combined second and third graders at the Addison School. This program has been going on for a number of years in Ferrisburgh with the donors there being the local Grange. [ more ]
