Harvey Smith to Head Farm Service Agency in Vermont

   Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanss appointed Harvey Smith as the State Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Vermont. In this role, Mr. Smith will oversee programs designed to improve the economic stability of the agricultural industry in Vermont.
   “Harvey’s strong agricultural roots and active involvement in agricultural issues will help Vermont farmers optimize their resources with the programs available through FSA,” said Governor Douglas. “Harvey’s experience makes him a valuable asset and we welcome his insight and commitment to serve his fellow agricultural community.”

Death With Dignity and Humor

    When Art Buchwald moved to a Washington, D.C. hospice to die, the humorist in him  couldn’t help but make a joke out of his end-of-life decision: When my friends started coming to visit me, he said, “I told them, ‘Dying is easy; parking is impossible.’”     Buchwald was somewhat exceptional in his attitude toward death, and this may explain why he was finally kicked out of the hospice for over staying his expected time limit.
     However, most of us don’t see the humor in our inevitable end, but maybe, occasionally, we should entertain the lighter side of eternity.

2007 STAR Awards Celebration

   In honor of those members of the education and business communities who have gone above and beyond what is expected and made special contributions during the school year to the education of students, the Addison County Business Education Partnership (ACBEP) and the Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) sponsored its ninth annual STAR (Showing Thanks, Appreciation and Recognition) Awards Presentation Night on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Mary Hogan School.  Evening entertainment was provided by the MUHS Women's Ensemble.
